Parenting is a topic that has received little attention in Mexican scholarship. In the field of family studies, Mexican parenting has not been treated directly or received sufficient status to deserve a lot of specific study. In this article I interpret the existing knowledge through a review of the works that do exist and that I have grouped in four fields: (1) studies focused on the construction of the self or the individual; (2) anthropological and sociological studies that describe parental practices related to the construction of gender differences and the sexual division of labour; (3) sociological studies that describe the resources used in parenting; and, (4) studies that do not deal with parenting but with parent-child relationships.
