How do changes in cardiovascular disease risk factors and medication treatments influence the increase in CVD mortality in Beijing and Shanghai?
CVD mortality in Beijing and Shanghai increased with a negative age gradient in individuals over 45 years old between 2004 and 2010.
May signal rising midlife CVD burden in urban China; leaves open the role of risk factors and treatments in this cohort.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality is rising in many developing countries. There are many reasons for the mortality. In this study, we applied the IMPACT model to examine how much of the increase in CVD mortality in Beijing and Shanghai, two biggest cities in China. Also, we explored the changes of cardiovascular disease risk factors and assessed the influence of medication treatments on CVD mortality. The patients were enrolled from 2004 to 2010. The result showed that there was an increasing mortality rate of CVD by a negative age gradient in men and women after 45 years old.
