Using long range low frequency acoustics to monitor changes in Arctic Ocean temperature and changes in the sea ice could provide a capability to detect climate trends in the Arctic. In order to understand the sensitivity of acoustic phase and intensity to plausible climate trends, against a realistic background noise, a modelling study was undertaken using a unique Russian data set from the Arctic of temperature, salinity, and depth.
