Enhancement of transportation efficiency and security is important, especially with regard to the use of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) wireless communication. However improved connectivity can expose the system to threats such as data breaches and unwanted access attempts. The security challenges of V2I communication addressed in this paper include an outline of a system that integrates LoRa technology with a proposed key generation method. The authors propose a lightweight and efficient method component was deployed on Raspberry Pi 4 that uses received signal strength indicators (RSSI) to calculate the secret key. Using a Kalman Filter, the RSSI of the signal is more stable and correlated, in addition to this, AES-128 encryption and adaptive multibit quantization ensure the protection of information. With a correlation coefficient of 0.994, and computation times ranging from 0.042 to 0.049 seconds, system is ideally suited for real time environments. With adaptive quantization the KGR achieves its maximum of 19547 but bit errors are managed by BCH(255,7) Code. In addition, the Universal Hash function increases entropy, facilitating the generation of a perfect 128 bit key. Encrypted key generation in V2I contexts under LoRa-based communication is revealed to be possible in the deployment of the system.
