The Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire (MHQ) is a brief self-rating inventory that is intended to cover the full clinical range of neurotic illness. The subjects selected for investigation were persons aged between 40 and 65 years. It was found that there were few associations between positive responses and bereavement. This was true whether one analyzed all bereavements, bereavements of members of the nuclear family, or bereavement of individual relationships. The last insignificant findings were related to loss of a husband.
