The CIPK gene family plays a key role in plant development and in stress signal transduction. The orthologs for experimentally proven drought stress responsive CIPKs from rice was identified in maize and sorghum. A total of 49 genes from the three species were analyzed for their phylogenetic relationship, gene structure, expression level and tissue specificity upon drought stress.
