This document establishes the Digital Hippocratic Oath's provenance, aiming to enhance medical values in the digital age.
This document establishes the date, authorship, and provenance of the Digital Hippocratic Oath as formulated by Gabriëlle Speijer (CatalyzIT). The oath has been developed by the author since 2017 and was first published in print in November 2019, in the Dutch healthcare technology journal ICT&health, in an interview with the author conducted by José Coenders. In that publication, the formulation of the oath is explicitly attributed to Speijer alone by an independent journalist, on the basis of an interview. The Digital Hippocratic Oath consists of four promises: to make health information valuable; to make health information available for the patient and the knowledge network of colleagues; to treat health information confidential; and to lead technology, all for the health of the patient and society. Three elements are distinctive in combination: the active framing of "leading technology" as a professional duty; the dual promise of valuable and available alongside confidentiality; and the explicit framing of all four promises as serving both individual patient and society. This record consolidates the oath, its current text, the original 2019 publication context, and its full publication trail through 2026 into a single citable Zenodo deposit. It is intended as the canonical reference for the CatalyzIT formulation of the Digital Hippocratic Oath.
