This project investigates the environmental and social impacts of data centers in General to assess their sustainability and potential effects on the local community of North Carolina. Using publicly available data, literature reviews, and a case study analysis, the study will evaluate energy consumption, water usage, impact on air quality, and other operational factors. Findings will inform recommendations for improving sustainability practices and mitigating adverse impacts at the local level, providing a model for responsible data center development in similar regions. This project was developed as part of the University Library AI Fellows Program, supported by the Library AI Studio and the Provost’s AI Acceleration Program.
