Foresight exercise assesses tetrahedrite technologies in thermoelectrics, highlighting challenges and opportunities for innovation.
This report (Deliverable 7.1) presents the foresight exercise conducted in the START project to support the development of flexible, scalable, and adaptable thermoelectric value chains. Using focus groups, Delphi surveys, interviews, and desk research, the study engaged experts in thermoelectrics, raw materials, and sustainability to assess near- and mid-term perspectives on tetrahedrite-based technologies. Results highlight the strong perceived potential of the START concept, outline a preliminary value chain, and identify key uncertainties, opportunities, and challenges. Expert-informed recommendations address supply diversification, material strategies, system integration, manufacturing scale-up, and market positioning, providing guidance for future innovation, commercialization, and business case design within the START ecosystem.
