The blunted growth hormone (GH) response to stimulation tests in conditions of excessive cortisol secretion or administration is well known. This paper presents a dual action of glucocorticoids upon GH secretion. Acute administration of glucocorticoids is demonstrated to be a potent stimulus for GH release, while long-term exogenous and endogenous glucocorticoid excess depresses GH release in response to the GHRH-test.
