Glass is a quite complexe archaeological material. Different ways to caracterize this matter exist depending on the problem to solve. The first approach is a physical caractérisation of the corrosion phenomena sufferred by this material. These studies are necessary to try to answer the problems of conservation of glass. These problems are shortly described in this paper. Other studies try to understand either the glass making recipies and techniques or the problems of trade and provenance posed by this material. The analytical methods used are essentially chemical analytical methods. A brief review of applications published by different authors is made here.
