The advancement of technologies has proven to be beneficial for several fields, one of which is the agri-food industry, the usage of various principles such as Internet of Things is expected to further enhance agricultural good's quality and quantity. Incorporating IoT technologies into the agrarian field will help face the need to meet the increase in food demand and ensure better food quality and safety. The use of sensors yields a large amount of data (temperature, humidity, and soil moisture among others) that needs to be processed to extract valuable information, applying data analytics will enable farmers to derive insights and predict potential crop disease risk. The purpose of this research paper is to highlight the vital role that applying IoT systems in the field of agriculture plays in the betterment of the agricultural and food industries. The paper will examine the main usages of IoT in agriculture, the technologies and sensors being used in IoT -based systems for the improvement of agriculture, as well as the challenges that hinder the use of IoT in the agrarian field.
