Does DC shock terminate cardiac arrhythmias in patients?
This early case series reports on the use of DC shock for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias in 100 patients.
DC shock appears feasible for arrhythmias in this series; leaves open need for randomized confirmation before practice change.
THE use of DC, shock in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias has been pioneered by Lown and his associates 1 (1962). We are reporting our first 100 patients treated by this method. For those unfamiliar with this technique a short historical and technical intro- duction is appended.
