We integrate theoretical arguments about CSR and empirically examine how the instrumental and institutional factors affect CSR behavior in emerging economies. Our test of the corporate donation by publicly listed Chinese firms in the wake of the 8.1 scale earthquake in Sichuan, China (May 12, 2008) supports our integrative framework.
