Single crystals of SnS2 have been prepared by the vapour transport method. The electrical conductivity of these crystals has been measured along and perpendicular to their c direction by a probe method. The thermal activation energy associated with electrical conduction in the c direction exceeds that in the direction perpendicular to it by about 0·18 eV. The spectral response of photoconductivity measurements showed a band gap of 2·34 eV (at 300 K) with a temperature coefficient of -1·02×10−3 eV K−1.
