All articles appearing in the Journal of Music Therapy from 1964 through 1983 were reviewed to identify sources of scholarly productivity in music therapy. Data were tabulated according to year of publication, author affiliation, author gender, and author credentials. The findings indicate that most of the recent literature (1974–1983) originated in university settings and that a majority were authored by women. These trends are discussed with respect to the entire 20-year period. Additionally, several universities are identified as leaders in the area of article publication.
