Nutrigenetic testing and personalized nutrition targeting genes like APOB and PCSK-9 can help determine risk factors and identify preventative strategies for cardiovascular diseases.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, with both genetic and environmental factors contributing, while nutrigenetics offers an opportunity to prevent or reduce disease incidence.
Nutrigenetic testing and personalized nutrition offer potential strategies for the prevention and risk management of cardiovascular diseases.

Nutrigenetic testing should not yet change practice; this review leaves open the need for prospective trials to validate personalized nutrition.
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Besides genetic factors, environmental factors also contribute to their etiology. Nutrigenetics provides the opportunity to prevent or reduce the incidence of many diseases. In this review article, we investigated the incidence of cardiovascular diseases in relation to nutrigenetics, genotype-specificity, personalized conditions, nutrition, genetic polymorphisms, and environmental factors. We concluded that the genes encoding miRNA, APOB, PCSK-9, SORT1, cytokines, and IFN- are strongly associated with development and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Through nutrigenetic testing, we can determine the risk factors, identify preventative strategies, and improve the quality of life through personalized nutrition.
