Summary: The purpose of this paper is to review the properties of available bone replacement materials and provide guidelines of how to choose certain graft materials for different clinical indications (e.g., periodontal defects, peri‐implant defects, socket augmentation, ridge augmentation, and sinus augmentation). Conclusion: Full understanding of material properties and meticulous case selection may help to maximize the benefit of bone replacement grafts in tooth‐ and implant‐related regeneration.
