The issue of Regional variability of health interventions is financially relevant, since an increasing rate of unjustified performances could be a source of waste. But the problem is also related to the evaluation of the healthcare appropriateness. An excess of medical interventions could damage the patient, being useless and therefore harmful; but an insufficient availability of interventions or facilities could favor inequalities in the access to the health services. This topic requires more attention by the National and Regional health institutions, and a better performance monitoring is needed.
