The equations of motion of building systems with soil‐structure interaction are formulated for foundations comprising a joint mat or a set of individual spread footings. The influence of soil‐structure interaction and the possible effects of building and foundation rocking are examined by investigating the modal properties. Simplifications in the analysis are also suggested.
