Current research study is carried on development of Satellite Land Cover Monitoring System and assessment of forest plantation activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa covering period of 2007-2024. Multi-satellites data were examined to estimate change in land use land cover, forest phenologies, forest cover density and Eco-Zonation. The land use land cover statistics for forest land was 13713.6 – 14560.1 km2, crop land of 21095.1 to 21211.3 km2, grass land of 11831.9 – 12656.9 km2, wet land of 1919 – 2162.2 km2, settlements of 1617 – 2180.8 km2 and others land features of 22547.5 – 23876.3 km2. The spatial statistics showed an increase of 1.14% and 0.76% in forest cover and settlements, respectively. The ground validation showed land use land cover data overall accuracy was 94.5 % with Kappa coefficient of 0.91. Thematic change detection showed Intact Forest cover from 0.96 to 0.98 million ha. Overall, 19911 ha forest had been deforested and degraded along with afforestation and natural regeneration over 64275 ha. Satellite based assessment of plantation activities during 2018-19 explained 94% (38801.2 ha) positive change in 1534 afforestation sites, 85% (112921 ha) positive change in 2875 enclosure sites and 87% (151722.2 ha) positive change in total under Major to Slight categories. In conclusion, this research study will help to establish spatial-temporal forest inventory at sub-national scale and plantations activities assessment through effective use of space technology.
