The concept of AI agent orchestrator is probably the most profound change work will undergo in the next decade. Until now a professional was worth what they could do with their own hands and their own head. In the agentic economy they are worth what they can coordinate: how many agents they direct, what quality they get from them, how they supervise them, how they articulate their work with humans and other agents. It is a role change identical to the one orchestra conductors experienced when they stopped playing to conduct. My position, after three years working with organizations that already operate this way, is that in 2030 the orchestrator role will be the fastest-growing labor category in the region, and professionals who understand this early will have a decisive advantage over those who continue selling themselves as executors.
