The Elkonin-Davydov educational system was created and continues to develop as a genetic modeling study of age-specific potentialities of children and adolescents that only recently were in demand from the dominant system of education. The transformative power of this system of education essentially depends on whether it will be able to retain a research status while performing practical tasks on an ever-expanding scale. The following is a description of today's problems and the near-term potential for development of a design experiment in education.
