This paper renews empirical findings relevent to four major research components of a research agenda for the study of psychosocial factors important to the spread and onset of AIDS. Although these four research components have only been investigated for a short period of time, considerable empirical support exists to show that study of psychosocial factors is essential to preventing and managing AIDS. Future research directions, which build on the current empirical findings, are outlined. These directions urgently need to be investigated if this epidemic is to be controlled.
