At present, the main trend of sports news dissemination focuses primarily on the application of multimedia imaging technology. In this paper, SPSS software is used to perform descriptive statistical analysis, nonparametric testing, and exponential smoothing analysis on the image indices of multimedia imaging technology. The overall situation and regional differences of current image factors in multimedia images are analyzed through horizontal comparison of multimedia image technologies. Then, the multimedia imaging technology is analyzed and predicted using MATLAB. The results show that the resident population and stadium coverage have the greatest influence, with significant correlation coefficients, but their influences are opposite. A time series model is used to obtain pre-measurement of the influence degree of multimedia imaging technology in sports news communication, with a standard error of 0.235. This study has theoretical and practical value for the application of multimedia imaging technology in sports news communication.
