Shows improved energy efficiency in edge server placement, indicating effective resource management in 5G networks.
Edge server placement problem is a critical aspect of mobile edge computing, where data processing happens close to the user rather then relying on a distant cloud server. When the computing resources are kept much closer to the user then the response time is reduced to a great extent and simultaneously the data traffic congestion at the cloud is minimized. In 5G networks majorly all the applications requires very less delay and strong data connection as in the case of medical facilities, automated vehicles or smart traffic the response time needs to be very fast. In this manuscript, the positioning of servers is optimized to minimize energy consumption while maximizing user experience. This issue is designed as a constraint optimization problem and a heuristic optimization algorithm is applied to detect the best positioning remedy. The algorithm is evaluated dataset obtained from Shanghai Telecommunication and through simulations it is apparent that the method devised is able to minimize energy consumption to a significant amount as compared to particle swarm optimization and Topfirst algorithm.
