Skill sessions were designed to help students in acquiring some of the specific skills which are needed in the practice of physics. The account given starts with a description of one particular skill session and then gives a more general survey of the organization of a series of such sessions and of the topics studied. The response of staff and of students to this form of teaching is then discussed.
