Active elastance and shape factor indices can be used as contractility indices to explain left ventricular pressure dynamics based on volume dynamics.
May support novel LV contractility indices from pressure-volume relations; leaves open clinical validation before any practice change.
This study characterizes left ventricular function in terms of passive and active elastances (E p & E a ) and shape factor index. Both the active elastance and shape factor indices can be employed as contractility indices. The work also demonstrates how E p and E a can explain LV pressure dynamics in terms of LV volume dynamics.
