Investigation identifies bone pathologies in canine remains from Persian period burials, suggesting burial practices.
Here we report on the bone pathologies identified in four out of 10 dogs (Canis lupus familaris) found buried at the Persian period stratum of Tel Dor (Mediterranean coastal plain, Israel). The dogs (5 adults, 5 juveniles) were buried in what seems to have been deliberately dug pits in an open area at the periphery of the site, once a domestic area.
