It is conventional wisdom that entertainment (especially in the form of live shows) is a part of the tourism product. In this paper the role of such entertainment is examined in Blackpool, the largest UK seaside resort. It is concluded from a survey of holiday-makers that the majority attended live shows on holiday and they were more likely to do so than when they were at home. Entertainment is very much a holiday experience. Entertainment was also the single most important factor in the decision to visit the resort. There could, therefore, be implications for the future prosperity of holiday destinations if the number and quality of live shows were to decline.
