Summary Teachers often express reservations about employing approaches recommended by educational psychologists for use with individual children. This concern is frequently made with reference to possible deleterious effects upon the other pupils in the class. This paper examines in some detail the social repercussions of individual behavioural interventions carried out by 23 primary school teachers and finds this concern to be groundless and the actual ‘ripple effects’ to have various positive benefits for other class members.
