The variable phase approach to scattering theory has been used to construct pseudopotentials from Li+, Na+ and K+ potentials in a similar manner to Pendry's qualitative discussion of the pseudopotential cancellation theorem. The results demonstrate that energy independent, local pseudopotentials should be adequate for the calculation of most alkali metal properties.
