The radio frequency size effect has been used to determine the anisotropy of the electron mean free path in indium. In particular, the variation of the electron-phonon mean free path lp was determined from the temperature dependence of the amplitude of size effects with a magnetic field either parallel to, or slightly inclined to the surfaces of the specimens. A cubic dependence of lp on temperature was found. For electrons travelling within 15° of the <111> direction on the second zone surface, the results could be described by the expression l-1p (cm-1) = (0.11 + 0.0021χ2) T3, where T is the temperature in K, and χ is the angle in degrees from the <111> direction. On other parts of the second zone surface lp was found to be smaller by a factor of 10 or more. The residual mean free path lo also showed a considerable anisotropy over the second zone surface.
