This study identifies several socioeconomic and demographic characteristics affecting food away from home consumption using the recent 1987-88 National Food Consumption Survey (the individual intake portion). The fmdings indicate that the following variables significantly alfect the number of meals purchased: region, race, ethnicity, sex, household size, age, income, and time of week of consumption. The results also indicate that employed individuals consume more meals away from home than unemployed individuals.
