This analysis finds linguistic changes in architectural research topics over time, suggesting sensitivity to social events.
This study analyzes changes in word frequency and meaning in the AIJ Annual Conference Proceedings (2008–2023) to clarify the linguistic dynamics of architectural research. Common words across four subfields were examined through time-series clustering, and semantic change was further analyzed using word vectors for three subfields. The results show that some words respond sharply to social events while others remain stable, reflecting differences in subfield sensitivity. Semantic analysis revealed patterns of divergence, convergence, and stability, highlighting how architectural discourse evolves in response to social and disciplinary shifts.
