Objective: Interventional cardiology (IC) is integral to modern cardiovascular medicine, requiring systematic training. This study analyzed cardiology trainees’ interventional training status, learning needs, and perceptions of renal denervation (RDN) to inform training system optimization. Design and method: A cross-sectional survey about IC was conducted among 29 cardiology trainees at West China Hospital from February to May 2025. The 23-item questionnaire covered five dimensions: demographics, training experience, learning preferences, career intentions, and RDN cognition. SPSS 26.0 was used for descriptive statistics and weighted score analysis. Results: The trainees had a mean age of 26.10 ± 2.90 years, with 93.10% majoring in cardiology and 58.62% being residents. While 78.57% of institutions offered interventional courses, 50.00% of trained trainees had less than 3 training hours. 92.59% of trainees planned to pursue a career in IC, with no significant association between career intention and gender (P=0.869). On-site operating room demonstrations were the most preferred learning method (composite score: 4.21), with 42.86% favoring equal theoretical-technical training. Coronary intervention was the most demanded skill (composite score: 5.46). 85.71% of them were aware of RDN, 45.83% requested detailed teaching on the technique, and 75.00% predicted its efficacy in treating refractory hypertension within 5 years. Conclusions: Current training covers a wide range of content but lacks sufficient duration. Trainees prefer practice-oriented teaching. Despite high awareness of RDN, their teaching needs remain unmet. There is an urgent need for a training system that ensures adequate training duration, prioritizes practical skills, and integrates emerging technologies.
