Metaplastic-like cells exhibit an eccentric nucleus. SCC-like cells are planar aggregates with prominent atypical nuclei, similar to SCCs. These squamous epithelium changes may serve as cytologic clues to the early detection of small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the uterine cervix with predominant subepithelial growth. The authors identified metaplastic-like and SCC-like cells in cervical SCNEC cytology. These findings offer vital clues for early detection, even in cases with predominant subepithelial growth.
