In this paper, I have tried to explore the impact of toss decisions on match results in all the 19 matches played in the Asia Cup 2025 T20 tournament held in the United Arab Emirates. Using the dataset of K. Raza and F. Ali 1, which includes structured data for each match, we shall look into the association of the following three variables—TossWinner, TossDecision, and Result—using the chi-square hypothesis testing method and win percentages. It is found that the teams winning the toss won 12 out of 19 matches (win percentage: 63. 2%). Fielding preference among the winning teams was significantly high (13 of 19 toss winners fielded). This observation could be attributed to the dew factor prevalent in the UAE. Interestingly, the winning teams batting first after winning the toss won their respective matches (win percentage = 100%), although this conclusion cannot hold much water due to full-member nations being more competitive than associate nations in the group stage of the tournament. In any case, the chi-square test (χ² = 2. 632; p > 0. 05) doesn’t seem to support the above inference.
