Recent conceptual and technologic advances in the areas of molecular immunobiology, gene transfer, and cell processing have fostered increasingly sophisticated translational applications of cellular therapies for oncologic disease that use genetically modified T lymphocytes. This minireview will highlight these advances and their relevance to the development of strategies to target post-autologous transplantation minimal residual disease with adoptively transferred T cells engineered to have graft-versus-tumor (GVT) reactivity.
