Parental division of power in family decision-making, as reported by Israeli Arab and Jewish adolescents, was investigated. Eight hundred eighty 11th grade high-school students completed the Family Authority Structure questionnaire. In general, Israeli Arab adolescents perceived more paternal and less maternal power than Israeli Jewish youth. Differences were also found between ethnic and religious subgroups in each culture and according to gender. The results seem to reflect the different degrees of collectivist (communal)-individualist (contractual) cultural orientation in Israeli society.
