Modelling of residential end-user electricity consumption is needed for policy making, planning of electricity distribution system and assessing the economic impact of adopting technologies like renewable energy, electric vehicles, and smart grids. The residential sector accounts a substantial percentage of total electricity consumption. However, modelling residential electricity consumption is a complex task due to the large variety of variables involved and occupant behaviour. This paper aims to review the existing models developed by the researchers and to find out the best possible way to establish a new comprehensive model that can address the issue of estimating power quality characteristics in residential buildings.
