現在の自動麻酔記録システムは，麻酔管理に関連する情報を統合的に管理する麻酔情報管理システム（anesthesia information management system：AIMS）であり，多くの施設で実用化されるようになってきた．最新のAIMSはユーザーの要求をおおむね満足する性能に到達しているが，今後，さらなる進化が期待される部分もある．操作や入力に使用するマンマシンインターフェイスの開発，バイタルサインの表示形式や画面の構成に代表される表示系の検討，保存された大量の情報を診療や研究に利用する手法の開発などが未来に託されたテーマである．AIMSの新しい機能として，波形や画像を含めた麻酔中の情報の一元管理や薬物動態シミュレーションによる生体内濃度の表示などが実装されつつある．
