Theophylline is used less frequently to treat bronchospasm due to the availability of alternative medications with less toxicity. Theophylline intoxication can cause significant morbidity and mortality. We present a case of theophylline toxicity in a child that progressed to status epilepticus and death. While prevention of ingestions is the best way to eliminate paediatric theophylline intoxications, early recognition and prompt institution of treatment can be lifesaving.
