Allied health education involves integration of theory and clinical practice. In this paper, gerontological concepts are applied to clinical practice through professional self-talk. This is a ease study teaching strategy which documents the clinical reasoning process and affective reactions of the therapist as they unfold in interaction with the patient. It aims at conveying content in a real-life context and at providing a model of clinical decision making. Professional self-talk is particularly appropriate for teaching geriatrics because of the rudimentary state of knowledge and practice in this area.
