The applicability of the polarized ion model to the gaseous rare-earth monoxides and to the highly electropositive alkaline-earth monoxides and monosulfides has been proved. The polarizability values here used for O−2, S−2, Ca+2, Sr+2, Ba+2, and rare-earth double ions indicate the possibility of establishing a polarizability scale to be used in ion model calculations.
