Abstract

Asymptotically accurate approximations for quantizer performance were developed by Gish and Pierce. Variational techniques were used to obtain asymptotically optimal performance. In this correspondence, optimal performance is demonstrated simply without variational techniques using Holder's and Jensen's inequalities.
