It is generally known that a high peak value exits at around 1 kHz in the coast‐by noise spectrum and dominates the coast‐by noise level. This phenomenon occurs in tires having tread patterns and for blank tires. Therefore this noise at around 1 kHz is not only generated by tread patterns (pattern blocks, pipe resonance etc.) but also by the vibrations of the tire components, especially the tread portion. Experimental and FE analyses were carried out to clarify the relation between coast‐by noise and tread vibration, and the influence of changes in tire construction on tread vibration.
