The true general spirit of social dynamics consists in conceiving of each of these social states as the necessary result of the preceding, and the indispensable mover of the following, according to the axiom of Leibnitz, “The present is big with the future.” In this view, the object of science is the discovery of the laws which govern this continuity, and the aggregate of which determines the course of human development.1
