The abiding virtue of this work is the use of well-illustrated and clearly written neuroanatomy and neurophysiology to help understand the more clinical neurosurgical text. Gross and microscopic, normal and pathological anatomy with numerous diagrams help to illuminate how and why problems arise—and are solved. In this new edition, largely shepherded into print by Dr Schneider, the general plan of earlier editions has been continued. The auctorial and editorial work of the other editors has continued to embellish the text. The text has been expanded from 26 chapters in the second edition (1969) to 39 chapters with 37 authors, largely from the University of Michigan. Radiotherapy for tumors has been written by Wara and Sheline from the University of California at San Francisco. The chapter on stereotaxy has been written by Guiot and Derome from Suresnes, France.
