An instructional program based on Keller's model of personalized instruction was designed for use with junior high school gifted students in a midwestern community. Seventh and eighth grade gifted students were placed in control and experimental groups. The control group., consisting of 12 students, received traditional lecture format instruction, while the experimental group, made up of 8 students, was presented programmed units of instruction based on Keller's model. The topic of instruction was psychology. The experimental group completed the nine weeks of material three weeks before the control group and scored significantly higher on the final test than did the control group. Implications for gifted children and teachers were discussed.
